I just read that one of the 8 hottest toys this year is "Lifestyle Kitchen: The perfect gift for your little ones, this kid-sized kitchen provides them with endless play possibilities. I can uh remember when girls begged for just a measley little Easy Bake Oven, and boys wanted skates. One of the 8 today is a A PERSONAL video player!! Hey, over 40s, can YOU imagine this! Nothing like what we would have awakened to on Christmas Day. Wasn't the closest thing maybe a little "Turntable Stereo" back then??

We wanted our very first camera, now there are digital cameras!!! My, does this mean I'm getting old?? Ewww, old. My only consolation to hearing my "elders" laughing in my head right now, is knowing that those who are young right now will hear their own "elders" laughing one day too. You do know that elders are right...40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47....it really doesn't feel that "old". Well, until you think of today's kid "toys"! And until you try to un-kink your body to get out of bed in the mornings!

Child and Grown Up Orphans

     Tomorrow I'm returning to see my brother-in-law and his grandkids. It's been 5 months since my sister's death. It feels more like 2 or 3 months though. As hard as it is to visit, I need to visit - have to visit. It always seems like there is "something" I need to "do" since she died -- but I cannot figure out WHAT it is! I want the grandkids, ages 8 and 10, to know I'm here for them. And maybe for my sister's grown kids to feel closer to me. I know how bad it feels to have a mother die.

     No matter how much a child "hates" their mom, or believes they do, death changes those feelings --FAST! Her daughter has a 2 yr old and will want to turn to her own mother for advice - but her mother won't be there. That's a big thing, and a girl never quite gets "over" this. There is always a hole there, no matter what a child says. As the song says: "Motherless children have a hard time when the mother is gone."
I first heard "Motherless Children" years after my mom's death, and immediately burst into tears, even though I hadn't been thinking of her. It caught me off-guard, and ripped right to that painful place I had walled off. I was in a crowd that night; emarrassed, I ran off to another room, and never heard the whole song until later and never knew who sang it that night's rendition. I wish I knew the artist; it was sung so viscerally, so powerfully. It said what I had no words for as an orphan at age 14.

     No one will "do", no one can take a mother's place.

     "...there's so many things he (no one)  just don't understand.."

     No one can understand, until the person loses their own mother.  Then you know the depth of the pain.  Then you know how "alone" you feel.

 

Sky Not Falling::Bathtub Just Over-flowing!

Mr. Attractive who sawed a 6 foot by 3 foot hole in the ceiling a week before sent his assistant to actually do the plumbing job.  Mr. "Really Check it Out" takes a look upstairs and reports "there is no leak, the tenants upstairs are just over-filling their tub"!!  How would you like to be the landlord, hearing that someone cut a huge hole in your ceiling, for NO reason?!!?  Ack!!  Mr. Attractive was here 5 minutes and obviously was ONLY interested in using his "toy", the huge cutting saw, only interested in ripping something up just to make a mess (and not fix it).  If he'd taken a minute to check things out....  Well, at least I don't have to worry about it.  But, I feel for the landlord.  Plus, I've got the hole left in my ceiling.  And, how S-T-U-P-I-D can someone be -- to not realize they are over-flowing the tub, not once, not twice, but several times in a week!  It was actually overflowing a lot more that I never knew, because it had rotted my ceiling.  HOW DUMB those people are.  Sigh.  Shaking head......
